Colorblind

Society

We are born colorblind.

Everything is distorted at first,
a blending of images.

But we gradually learn to see clearly,
to decipher between colors.

Instead of shades of gray,
we distinquish two opposing pigments-
black and white.

Maybe it would be better
if this sense did not develop,
if our vision stayed blurred.

We would look at each person
and watch their skin
bled into the next person's.

We would not define differentiation
based on varying degrees of melanin
but on what makes us individuals.

There is only one race- the human race,
but there six billion personalities
and that is what should categorize us.
