The Caterpillar who remained a Caterpillar

The Caterpillar who remained a Caterpillar

One day, on a bright sunny day, like any other day all caterpillars, butterflies, grasshopper, and any other insect enjoyed being outside. As a caterpillar was looking at the butterflies we wonder what it would be like to fly and be one of them. A butterfly caught the caterpillar looking at them and asked “what's wrong kiddo” “oh nothing, I’m just wondering how it would feel to be one of you” said the caterpillar. The butterfly replied, “well you’ve got to be up for a change and sacrifice the time you will not be spending while you go through metamorphosis”. The butterfly spread its wings and went along with its friends. The caterpillar went with its friends and went for food. They began talking about how they were all ready for a change, they were all excited about finally being able to fly. The caterpillar asked them how they weren't afraid. One replied “ it’s a little bit scary, but we are up for the change, sometimes the only road to achieve something is to confront it and be willing to take the risk”. As lunch came to an end, all the caterpillars decided to build their cocoons. However, the caterpillar who talked to the butterfly decided not to build its cocoon. It remained lonely while its friends went through metamorphosis. It decided not to go through metamorphosis because he felt it wasn’t ready. It wasn't ready to leave the outside for a while, wasn’t ready to sacrifice his time for a little change, and was scared to miss out. At some point it felt regret but still wasn’t ready to confront a change and kept postponing it each day.

The final stage had finally arrived and all the caterpillars broke their cocoons and spread their beautiful wings. They admired each other and couldn't believe the transformation. They all remembered the other caterpillar decided not to build its cocoon. So what happened to the caterpillar?

They went to go search for it to show their beautiful transformation. There it was lying on the ground half eaten by a hawk. The butterflies were very upset but had to move on. The caterpillar who remained a caterpillar never experience the life of a butterfly. Having the opportunity to transform into something beautiful wasn’t achieved because it was afraid of change.

Moral: we become so afraid of change, we rather stay in our comfort zone and never get to experience what could have happened if had just changed.
