Vacations
It’s Friday at 3 p.m., Nick has just finish his semester and it’s going out for summer vacations. The whole campus is on a hurry to get out and get to their homes, some of them are from other cities or even countries and want to get home as soon as possible.
After getting into his car Nick realizes that there’s an intense traffic due to all does desperate students. While stuck in traffic Nick starts feeling the intense heat of the sun, it’s burning outside. All this traffic, those cars just being still as if they were paralyze, and the heat, started to get into Nick’s head.
Suddenly on the middle of the road there was his friend Mike, smiling as always, with that hawaiian shirt that he always wore, it’s seems as if he had spot Nick at the middle of the traffic, so he gets close to Nick’s windows, and knock on it. Nick and Mike start a conversation while the traffic is still, they start talking about summer vacation, suddenly Mike offers Nick a beer, which he accepts, he thought that traffic is not moving any way, so to get home would take some time. After minutes of conversation Nick invites Mike into the car so they can turn on the A/C so they could drink and be more comfortable. They start talking about their friends and the amazing summer they where going to spend at the beach, with Lucas and Mason. They had been planning this trip to the beach the whole semester, and now it was time.
The time passed by while the two friend just got into more and more conversation. Suddenly they ran out of beer. At about 3 miles Mike spotted a gas station and a convenience store, so he started thinking about going and buying some beer. The traffic wasn’t going to move any way, so Nick encouraged his friend and gave him some money, Nick thought that there was nothing better to do, besides he thought he was only going to drink a few more and that’s it. While Mike got out of the car and went to the store, Nick was watching people on the other cars in traffic. On his left there was this woman about 40, on her cellphone just chatting, while on the backseat of her car where 3 children playing and shouting. Nick thought what a desperate situation, how could the woman be there on here cellphone just ignoring the fact that there are miles of traffic, and that the kids were shouting. He turned his had, and looked through his rearview mirror. There was a young couple, about 20, they were arguing about something, it seemed as if they were trying to make everyone around notice their fight. Nick thought that maybe just the heat and all the traffic situation had gotten into their heads and made them start a fight unconsciously just to make some time and not get bored at traffic.
By that time Nick just wanted for Mike to come back with some great ice cold beer. After watching the couple shouting at each other he turned his head into his right. Suddenly he saw Mike coming with the beer but he stopped several cars ahead. Two guys step out of the car and being to hug Mike. He started to point into Nick’s car as if he was giving some instruction on where Nick was. The two guys turned off the car, the traffic seemed still, there had pass a hour since Nick got out of school, and the heat just seemed to increase. As Mike and the other two guys approached to Nick’s car he realized that it was Lucas and Mason. Nick invited them all into the car, Lucas and Mason told Nick that there was a big accident just miles ahead and that traffic would remain still, at least for couple of hours more. So they all started to drink beer and listen to music. That traffic had just started a party and Nick’s car; there were some beer, great music and friends. The idea of how great that traffic had turned out to be, started to come to Nick’s head, he just wanted to have a great time and make the most of the situation.
There was 7 p.m. and Nick had just arrived home. Her mom asked him where had he been, which he replied “Just traffic mom”, while lying down on bed with a big smile.
