Artificial Refuge

My artificial refuge,

Hiding feelings of pain,

Drawing my own world,

Harsh uncaring to feign,

Inspiration in an image,

Seen only in my mind,

Searching for the feelings,

I want so much to find,

Hands coming up empty,

The well quickly dries,

Now I see the lack,

From the look in her eyes,

Friendship is offered,

And taken in stride,

Proximity now torture,

Yet hidden by pride,

Biding my time,

Just past the gate,

Never to pass,

Resigning my fate.
