My Father's Road Bike

Folder:
My Portfolio

My father bought a road bike long time ago. He pretended to ride it like a hobby, but time passed and he made a connection in riding bikes. But not riding any bike, riding just his bike, the one he felt special for him. That striking red bike that every time my father rode it, he forgot about every problem he had in his life and just enjoyed that moment. He taught me how to ride a bicycle in that same bike, and I can say it is not the most comfort one, but for my father is the only one he cares about. He could not felt that sensation of freedom in another bike, he perfectly knew how that red bike was. Sometimes, my father got busy in his job and left a side the bike, and he can felt how that part of freedom he felt in the bike, was missing in his life. He realized that he had no time for riding a bike like old times, so he decided to just restore the bike and have it in his study. Incredibly, the bike was completely restored it, like new, but he didn’t ride it, he just had it like a trophy. It took so much time fixing it, painting it, adding it attachments, to just kept it in the study without using it. But my father was sure of his decision, he didn’t want to sell it or throw it away.

All of that freedom he felt, were in that bike, in all the memories he had when he rode it, and to ride it now, it would not mean anything for him, just a simple bike ride. In that moment, I realize that the bike itself, was full of meaning for my father, even if the bike was all rusty and old, for my father would mean everything since he had it long time ago. He had so many good times in it, that just by looking at it, his mind would remember infinite memories. In addition to that, my father needed a hobby to distract him from the job, a thing that he could enjoy and get him to forget all the work he had, and since he found that bike, his life changed completely, but it’s not just the bike, is the moments he had with it, including family and friend’s moments.

I could say that my father represents a balance in working hard and having hobbies in order to distract him from the job and that make him more successfully.
