Your past does not define you
But if you are lucky
It does strengthen you
And allow you to see
Things in the world
More clearly
Like the importance
Of acceptance
And treating
Others fairly
We all seek
On some level at least
A sense of peace
And even if you
Your past
Did try to defeat
Never stop seeking
That peace
You do dream
Of one day seeing
For blessed are those
Who can over come
The horrible things
To them have been done
And still fight
To one day see the world
Living as one
