Tabula Rasa

Once upon a time there was a single rabbit mother who was very sick. She had these three lovely rabbits but, knowing she wouldn’t be able to take care for them, she gave them away to three different families that she knew wanted kids but could never have them. They were little rabbits that liked to help their community and were appreciated by everyone in it, they were very popular for having such good manners and being so intelligent at such an early age. One she gave to the caring pandas, a good working family who was very respected in the community. Other she gave to the raccoons, who weren’t very liked in the community due to their selfishness and arrogance. The last one was given to a monkey couple, who were just another average and not very smart couple in the community. Years passed by and the rabbits grew big and strong. They were now active members and decision makers in their community. It was hard to believe that they were brothers. The panda rabbit was good and cared a lot for everyone, he always helped when he could. The raccoon rabbit was known to be a cheater and he always used people for his advantage. The monkey rabbit wasn’t very known because the monkeys recluded themselves from the community. Suddenly a water shortage happened in the community and the animals had to rationalize the little they had. As the rabbits were now the elders in their community, they were the ones that had to take the decisions and organize their community. Some animals were relieved about this because they remembered how helping and honest were the rabbits when they were babies. Little did this animals knew how different had they turned out to be and how changed were they now. The panda rabbit keeped his well-manners and his love for helping the community, he tried to rationalize fairly the water and give everyone the same for it to be fair. The monkey rabbit gave little thought to his decisions, he had become pretty dull and not very smart in decision making. He didn't distributed the water fairly and he kept it to himself and even started stealing from the other animals so he could get as much as he wanted. His brother, the panda rabbit, realized this and talked to him:
- Why have you done that? You were such a good rabbit when young.
- It is not how you were born that determines how you will live your life. It is the circumstances of your uprising that shape you as a person.
