Stranger

She stares at me with eyes so cold
The windows to her soul as black as coal
She speaks with my voice
She walks in my shoes
She wears the same clothes I do
But she is not me

Stranger. Stranger than fiction
Is this girl standing in front of me
Stranger. We have never met before
Yet there is something oddly familiar
About the girl behind the glass
She’s a stranger. A stranger to me

Lightning revelation strikes
As, finally and without doubt
Trapped behind the mirror, she used to be
But slowly, so surely, she devoured me
So inexplicably liberating
Was this stranger to me

She stares at me with reckless abandon
And back I gaze from behind the glass
She has become I, and I have become her
Finally, the act that I pretend can slumber
For this cold, dark girl with the cold, dark eyes
Will be the only vision the world will see

I watch, perched behind my reflective window
Relieved that this stranger walks my path
She faces my world with jaded vision
Far stronger than I could ever be
The windows to her soul still black as coal
This stranger who looks like me
