EFFORT AND CHANCE

EFFORT AND CHANCE

Gamblers abandoned intricacies; their love of a

Sure bet precludes those taking circuitous routes.

We always bet the house when we have house odds.

Strait is the gate, narrow is the path; yet, the stereoscopic

Vision of those riding the mare of steel for Allah means

That they will be divided in half no matter how singular.

Butterflies and bees spend all day on the Magnolias and

Bougainvilleas; such singular concentration means that

Seduction is afoot. I feel that way around topless women.

Majestic men like Beethoven and William Blake always

Look fierce.  If they break their concentration for an instant

It would be like measuring genius without calipers.

Diogenes needs his lantern to find one honest man; such

A search should not take him his whole life, however, because

It is the honesty within himself he seeks, it may take longer.

Relying on chance takes more effort; the beaver does not do

This: dams are always erected long in advance so as to blockade

All the Herculean efforts of others.  We live in a stymied world.

For this, there are the joys of Sisyphus; his exercise in futility may

Not be in vain. It is the purity of effort over the game of chance

That wins.  This is how the ant overcomes the rubber tree plant.
