Grey

In the silence.

"Grey?"

No reply.

"Remember me? And all the tears I cried?

We were walking, slowly

Side by side

You were just in front

And right behind

And on my left and on my right;

And the dry wind blew dry dust

Into my blinking eyes. Remember?"

Look in the mirror.

"Grey -

Face it, either way

That vacant smile

On that broken face must be yours

Or mine."

The road was buzzing.

The sky was white and heavy

And low-slung,

And the pale sun was distant

In its lonely never-ending dance.

An empty crisp packet came skipping

Across the tarmac

And as the trees slow-danced

H e a d s - O n - S h o u l d e r s

The sky darkened in envy...

I thought I'd never need you again

As I walked, alone,

And the first raindrops scattered at my feet.
