An inconvenient Tree

Once upon a time there were two mighty oak trees. They have live upon earth for 300 years. Each and every single morning, they would greet each other.

“Morning, Oak!”

“Morning, buddy!”

They were best friends since the day they began their lives on Mother Earth.

One day, Oak was woken up by his friend´s screams.

“Help me, they are hurting me!”

When Oak looked down he saw a group of men cutting through his base.

“Stop it! Can´t you see you´re hurting him?” Oak screamed at them.

But he got absolutely no response.

The screams finished with a thump of his trunk falling to the ground.

The men took him, leaving just a little piece of what was left of him. 300 years of friendship reduced to a foot-size of trunk.

That was the time Oak decided he would avenge his one and true friend. He would never let another human touch a tree again.

But how would he do this? He couldn´t move. His roots were so deep into the ground he wasn´t able to even move a branch without the help of a breeze.

He decided he was going to use the animal kingdom for his purpose.

The lion and the oak met at midday. Sun God was at his highest glimmer.

“Humans are evil, look what they did to my friend, and don´t think animals are safe, they have killed thousands of your species. It’s time for us to rise. ”

Lion looked at the little piece of trunk sitting next to Oak and reflected at all the times he has seen his brothers and sisters’ cold lifeless bodies lying on the jungle. Lion agreed.

“Don´t do this, don´t break Mother Earth´s balance, the time for humans to face their consequences would come when it has to”. Sun God said.

Lion and Oak ignored Sun God. Where was he when the ones of their kind were unfairly treated? Maybe he didn´t care for them at all.

It was decided, the animal kingdom was going to reclaim what was taken from them a long time ago.

The war between humans and animals started. Every single animal species went there and fought. Eagles from the sky landed on Earth. Whales and sharks started attacking sailormen. Even domestic animals turned their backs on their owners.

The war was long. Many animals were annihilated, but at the very end, they thrived.

A lot of them, though, lost their sanity at war.  Some of them became addicted to the feeling of warm blood and juicy flesh on their jaws.

The strongest of the jungle were, ironically, the more weak-minded.

The addiction became stronger than their brotherhood and forced them to fulfill their impulses with their brothers’ and sisters´ flesh. The balance among the animal kingdom was completely disrupted, leading to their extinction.

“I-I’m sorry, Sun God, I never intended any of this to happen!” Oak cried.

“You disobeyed my orders. Your thirst for revenge clouded your common sense! Are you happy now? Look at what you´ve caused.”

Sun God didn´t show up to Mother Earth in a day… two days… a week… a month, and Oak started to feel how his body was getting weaker and weaker.

“Morning, Oak!” he said in a saddened manner as he looked at the small piece of trunk, now completely dried up.
