Little bird is a beautiful song by the Jonas Brothers
that, as a parent, once you hear it…you wont’ forget.
It was one Trista was singing as we visited her and 1 month old Violet.
Trista, as a new mother, is experiencing what all old parents know…
how time moves by too fast…how quickly our children grow.
There were tears in her eyes…as on to Violet she was clinging
because she understood first hand the message in the song that she was singing.
Deborah and I understood as well…how time moves ever-forward …
passing in a whiz…
as we remembered holding our grandson Damien in our arms…
the way he now holds Violet in his.
The hope within the song…is this beautiful little baby…will somehow find a way
to keep us in her heart…when she one day flies away.
Granted it has only been one month…
but in that month…oh how much she’s grown…
and it makes one think ahead…to a time when she’s already flown.
But for now we do our best to make each moment last
to make every moment sweet…
and with that in mind we took Trista and Violet out to lunch.
as Trista drove I sat next to Violet in the back seat.
And in a moment any great-grandparent hopes will linger…
Violet wrapped her little baby hand…around my giant finger.
And with my big finger nestled in her little hand…
(a memory I shall forever keep)
Little Violet closed her eyes and drifted off to sleep.
And no matter how quickly one month old Violet grows
knowing the days and weeks and years ahead will become blurred
I will cherish the memory of the day Trista sang the song
and in the back seat of her car…
I held hands with a sleeping little bird.
