Whether we’re high up in the mountains, on a beach
headed into the woods, near a floating dock…
We love any opportunity we can…to take a ‘little things walk’.
That’s a walk we take…usually around two miles
Where we look for all the little things along the way that make us smile.
This morning we chose the beach while still dark…thinking it’d be wise
to catch the full moon and stars before they fade away
then the sun when it was her time to rise.
We were out before the fishermen…enjoying the cool morning breeze
as the moon lit up the water and peeked at us through the trees.
With the full moon lighting our path…
We noticed from the ocean waves…not the slightest sound was made
as if they didn’t want to steal the thunder of the cricket serenade.
It was quiet enough to hear the sand crunch beneath our feet
as we slowly walked along
when all of a sudden birds we could not see…began to sing their morning songs.
As the sun began to lighten the sky…we spied…well within our reach
sea gulls and pelicans flying overhead…
and little yellow flowers that make their home along the beach.
We watched the sky change slowly
as the moon, realizing her evening in this sky was done…
ever so slowly ceded her time to the radiant colors of the sun.
Near the end of our walk the fishermen began arriving
then a friend and her dog we found… about to take a kayak trip
across St. Joseph Sound.
It’s funny when we take a ‘little things walk
be it Spring, Summer, Winter or Fall…
how often we find all those little things that make us smile
are not so little after all.
