ALL THESE MOMS

The other day in the bookstore is one I’ll long remember

because It seemed like it was Mother’s day in the middle of September.

I didn’t think much about it at first…because I’ve heard it so many times before

when a little girl said, “Mommy! I love this book!” as they walked in through the door.

A little later a young boy and his mother walked in…

the boy ran to the back of the store…

then running back to his mother said, “Mom! This is the book I was looking for!”

After three children from one family said, “Momma can we buy a book?”

And she smiled and nodded her head..

I started wondering how many times today

the word Mom in one way or another will be said.

One girl asked her mother, “Mom, how many books am I allowed to get…

A teenager pleaded, “Mom wait! I’m not done looking yet!”

A middle aged woman’s voice rang out…”Mother, come here…have a look…

I’m pretty sure you’ll like this puzzle…because you loved to book!”

Finally an elderly woman helping an even older woman into the store

(A mother and daughter I quickly guessed)

Said, “Momma I’m going to look for some books…you sit here and rest.”

From the comfort of the chair…the mother looked at me and smiled…

“That’s my daughter.” she said proudly. “She’s always been a loving child.”

Her daughter returned saying “Here’s a book about your favorite subject…trees

When they came to the counter to pay…her mother winked and smiled at me.

It was a busy day in the bookstore…that day in the middle of September…

I’m sure I heard Mom said many more times…but these are the ones that I remember.

As I was closing up for the evening…hearing echoes of all those Mommas in the store

and remembering all the times I’ve heard those echoes before…

I realized we don’t have to wait seven months…for the second Sunday in May…

If today was any indication…every day…is Mother’s Day
