Patience and Prayers

I was a young boy when I met her...her face revealed her age...
I asked her, in the innocence of youth...”How do you control your rage?

She chuckled to herself and said, “A lot of patience...a lot of prayers
For I often have to bite my tongue...instead of biting theirs.”

“Sometimes when life is difficult,” she smiled, “and it’s a struggle to be kind...
I take what’s good ahead with me...and leave my hate behind.”

I was too young to understand then...what she was trying to say
But her words have visited me often...and still resonate today.
