A Mess of a Life

It all just went to hell after high school. I couldn't get into college or maybe I just didn't really wanted to, my 17 year old girlfriend's pregnancy test came positive, we married, now here I am ten years later. Currently unemployed with a wife and kid to look out for, little Joey doesn't care for my big screw ups mainly because he's ten, but Lisa, oh my god Lisa loves to remind me how I should change everything on my life and really look out for the family. It’s been a bad life that’s it, but everything changed after I craved for a snickers bar and ran down to the grocery store, after grabbing the snicker I saw this lottery ticket and sensed that this might be the day I at least win some extra money for more chocolate bars. Paid for everything and scratched that golden colored lottery ticket. My eyes almost exploded as they saw the "10 MILLION $$" sign, I couldn’t believe it I was actually rich. The only thing I clearly remember was me sprinting into the apartment while eating my snickers bar. It all seemed like a dream, tears streaming through my face and minutes later Lisa arrived. With tears all over her face as well, not the joyful ones but the ones that really hurt you.

My first reaction was to go to her and hug her like never before. Then I asked her why was she that way, and told her that a miracle just happened. Lisa couldn’t stop crying. I was really confused, so I forgot what I was about to tell her. After a few minutes, she was finally able to speak. “I cheated on you” she said. That was the only thing Lisa was able to tell me before starting to cry again.  I was shocked. All the happiness I had a few minutes before was suddenly gone. A lot of things started to cross my mind. On that moment, I just stood up, walked into little Joey´s room and grab him out of his bed. I made the choice of leaving all this behind and starting a new life with my son and the money I just win. The possibilities were endless, I would be able to give my son the good life he deserves. Lisa was so ashamed with herself that she didn’t do a thing to stop me of taking our son. I was about to get out of the house when I suddenly stopped. A lot of thoughts crossed my mind on that moment. I kind of understood why Lisa did what she did. I started to analyze my own life and realize I was a bad father and terrible husband, who didn’t give his family what they deserved. I was so ashamed with myself on that moment. I decided to just leave Joey with his mother and walk away on my own. It was time to rethink my life, so I just left the house, not saying goodbye to anyone, not knowing if I would ever come back again.
