Straightened Smiles

straight smiles with a sharp embrace

then the crimson from a smile does race

the embrace of friends so close indeed

the embrace of friends.....and one in need

the need for love the need for life

the need for love to end the strife

the strife of life lived in pain

the pain of hatred, of life in shame

a heart is broken, but never mended

a life is started, and also ended

a life re-born, a second chance

a chance to run, for one more dance

to have a life so free of hurts

but life is not so kind, it soon reverts

to pain filled tears and smiles so straight

the smiles that bear oh so much weight

the weight of pain, of life un-just

of life of dirt and filth and dust

straight smiles from a sharp embrace

they never stop, they always race

away from mind, away from me

they race faster than the eye can see

they race from side to side, or up and down

they hide the sadness and stop the frown

they pause my mind, or halt the thoughts

they help me when I am distraught

these straight smiles with a sharp embrace

they cause so much hurt with little grace

the pain behind the scarlet smile

the hurt behind the moonlit mile

the grace beyond the hateful words

the courage in those cut in thirds

one part pain, one part love

the part that they have been bereft of

one part hate and full of wrath

that part leads to a frightful path

never released it lies in wait

for the smiles that we make oh so straight

the smiles so straight from the sharp embrace
