Walking Home at Night

Folder:
Early 20s

Its nights like these that I find solace,
For a few brief moments.
The day is long
And hot
And as the sun begins to glow against an orange horizon
The world around me calms.
The air is still a bit warm
And sticky
But the breeze is just slightly
Cooler than the air;
And every time the wind blows
You feel an electric energy
Whirl around you

I walk down the street
And run my hand
Along the walls and trees that
Pass me by

It’s one of those nights you find yourself sitting
On the front porch
Just to stay in that absorbing air
As the melodic sounds of Dave Matthews Band
Reverberate through my head phones
I look down and watch the perfect gentleman
Help his soul mate practice
Riding her new too small bicycle.
Biting into a slightly soft Popsicle, the juice rolls down my chin
And I race to save it

Its times like these that remind me of being a kid
Nostalgic summer nights.
