Light Behind the Gray

On a frozen lake, I learned to stand,

Afraid each step might break the land;

But something in me still took part,

Keeping time with my beating heart.

Beneath a distant midnight sun,

Where doubt and wonder blur as one;

Like an old friend’s voice I almost knew,

Patient and steady, soft and true.

And every shadow I have known

Was never as empty as it had shown;

There’s always light behind the gray,

A silver lining finds its way.

Author's Notes/Comments:

It’s about realizing that even in the darkest moments, there’s still something in you choosing to stand.
