Eileen

Your small eyes stare at the heavens…
So innocent and deep.
Like the still waters in the ocean,
Holding mysteries of wonders…
And devastation.

Your small lips curl as you smile…
Greater than that of Mona Lisa’s
Like the first ray of sun in the morning,
Lights a sparkle of hope…
In the world of uncertainties.

Yet I know how you cried a lot of times…
Under your pillow, in the darkest hour of night.
Like the roaring waters of the falls,
You sighed, choked and bled…
Until you fell asleep.

I know how you wanted to speak!
And ask the world questions they’ll never answer.
Like the burst of thunder and lightning before a storm,
Keeping it all inside of you, cause everyone
Is afraid to listen,
Nobody cares to know.

*In my grown-up mind:

Everyone thinks you’re just a child!
Nothing you feel does matter-
You are just a child!
Why should they all bother?
There’s always a time for you…

Except for now.

Because you are just a child!
They’ll deal with you later…
When you grow- up…
And years after, they all wonder:
“Where the hell did we go wrong???”

…Your small chuckles fill the room as you laugh…
You don’t mind everything at all…
You are just a child…
Having the time of your life,
In spite and despite of it all.

A moment with you is a moment of endless childhood.

Author's Notes/Comments:

Met her on the center, she’s one of my clients and her life story maybe is as the same as every child in the center: abused, abandoned and in need for temporary shelter. She is the eldest among the 5 siblings. Their mother is in the mental health institution for psychiatric treatment. She’s only 7.
