+ 2ND POEMS: Sonnet On The Cross Of Christ

Do not think---just six ordinary hours:

Christ crucified; thus, His divinity

must have experienced each agony

intensified by exponential powers,

unilimited by human finity.

This---to break sin's penalty, which is death:

(the very thought should take away your breath,

then give it back).  My poor words fail:  each cowers

before the dread transaction on the cross.

His death, preceded by unspoken pain,

prevented our deserved and total loss,

transforming it to our eternal gain.

Offered, it needs only to be received;

then, afterward (and ever more), believed.
