Hosanna, 4: Joseph's Garden In The Morning

released their fragrance to the wafting air

that shimmered with the first pink tints of dawn

beyond.  In Joseph's garden, birds began

to sing.  A limber boy and breathless man

(who---just two days before this---had denied

knowledge of Christ, as Christ had prophesied)

rushed in, but Jesus was no longer there.

What kind of guards could have missed this event's

impact?---the tomb empty, the body gone.

Only the winding sheets lay on the shelf
(where friends had placed Him; such a cold, hard space

it seemed); the napkin that had veiled his face

now neatly folded and placed by itself.
