Ides Of March

[after the first two lines of Stephen's poem, "Muse"]

"That strain again.  It had a dying fall."

---William Shakespeare, Twelfth Night, Act I:scene 1

Crossing muddy Rubicon, in sight of Gaul,
haughty Caesar casts his dice--- for "the whole ball
"of wax, or string."  The Senate will not annul,
its own power to his, and its leaders will call
Caesar's bluff---his stab at dictatorship will stall
at the long knives of those assassins in that hall:
Brutus' firm swing to Caesar's dying fall.

Author's Notes/Comments:

Read Stephen's poem, "Muse," but also read all of his poems.  Highly recommended.  And humbly admired.
