Footnote: Summer Sport

Past noon---croquet:  clad

in polo shirt and long skirt,

barefoot:  at dusk, you

put knee-high nylons on for

night's cool-down and my heat-up.

It dawned on me that your younger readers may have never been exposed to a game of croquet and therefore would not understand this poem.  They will of course understand the "heat-up" part. Smile. Use left and right arrows to navigate. Stephen

I never thought of that as,

I never thought of that as, in my suburban neighborhood, lawn croquet was, like, the most popular game during the summer.  And I was, maybe, eight or nine.  I guess it may have gone out of style.  And yes, the heat up, I hope, is glaringly obvious to all readers.
