Elegy For Alun [Reverend John Blackwell, 1797-1840]

Alun---revered "priest, poet, literary man"---

And, as before your tombstone, pilgrim poets pass

by, no snakes linger in that churchyard's sacred grass.

Starward

Author's Notes/Comments:

The three terms quoted in the first line are inscribed, in Welsh, on Alun's tombstone.  The last line alludes to both Genesis 3 and Vergil's Third Eclogue.
