Little Monster

There's this little monster inside of me
It just wants and wants and wants
It screams and throws a fit whenever it doesn't get its way

It's an angry little monster with dirty little paws
And a constant little pout upon its tiny, hungry face
Selfish intentions thrashing in its bitter, blackened heart

Its voice is quietly relentless
And if you're not listening carefully enough, its tiny sad cries will break your heart
But it's a tricky little monster
It knows what it wants, and it knows how to get it

There's a sign by its tiny little cage,
"Don't feed the monster"
Because when you feed the monster,
It only gets stronger
fatter
meaner

And when it gets big enough
It tears down the walls of its cage
Tears down the walls of your heart
And you can try to build a new cage
But you can never fix the first one,
You can never restart

Please
Don't feed the monster
Because you're its favorite food
