A View That Should Not Be

I look out and see,

a point of light

approaching fast.

A view that should not be.

I look out and see,

a cloud

of smoke and fire.

A view that should not be.

I look out and see,

the twins

with gaping wounds.

A view that should not be.

I look out and see,

the wounded walls collapse

in gouts of dust.

A view that should not be.

I look out and see,

nothing where once

was something strong.

A view that should not be.

I look out and see,

a wall

a patchwork of missing.

A view that should not be.

I look out and see,

a fortress

fallen.

A view that should not be.

I look out and see,

a nation

mourning for its lost.

A view that should not be.

I look out and see,

a celebration

of hatred.

A view that should not be.

I look out and see,

strength,

unity,

courage,

heroes,

self sacrifice,

love.

I see a city

proving to the world

it is a family.
