where was I in adolescence
was it ever here
I spent my time searching beyond my reach
yet all I found in reality
was fear
I would watch
children in their 'happiness'
so deeply broken
but to never make a sound
for they knew nothing beyond
the laughter of the playground
and in their eyes, you saw truth
of what one day they would become
but they hid from truth
and when knowledge sank in
they took ignorance for a run
