Hello baby girl,

I got your letter today,

A tear formed and started to swirl,

I don’t know what to say.



I know it is hard on mom and you,

But it is real hard for me too.

They don’t celebrate Christmas over here,

For these people there isn’t much cheer.



Many have lost loved ones in the fight,

Others to insurgents in the night.

But they go on their way,

Trying to make a better life every day.



I know it is hard for you to understand,

Why I have to be over in this land.

That I should be home by now,

I can be, and I will show you how.



Just close your eyes and say, “Daddy”

And just like that, there I will be.

You see, baby girl, we are never far apart,

Cause we are always right in each others heart.



So don't cry, or be angry at why I am here,

Know that we are trying to take away fear.

Help these people learn what it is to be free,

Give them a voice in their government's democracy.



It won’t be long before I am home,

You just wait a see,

No longer will I be gone,

Back again with my family.



So close your eyes and say a prayer,

And Jesus and I we will be there.
