Leann and Lacy Fly

Okay girls, let your dad strap you in tight,

Wouldn’t want you falling out in flight.

Daddy, I am scared as can be.

Don’t worry sweetie, you are safe with me.

Colonel Ron, can I sit with you?

If it is alright with your dad,

I think there is room here for two.

You can sit on my lap

And I will show you how to fly.

Maybe once we are up,

I will let you try.

Wow, can I daddy? Please?

Okay sweetie. Promise to do as you are told,

Or we could end up in the trees.

I will sit back here with my baby girl,

Looking out the window down on our world.

Okay young lady, up you go,

Gotta have our seatbelts on, don’t you know?

Are you ready to learn to fly?

Yes Colonel Ron, let’s get it up in the sky.

Okay, see the little switch right there?

Uh-huh.

Push up on it til you hear the motor flair.

That’s it. Hold it til I say….

That got it, we are ready to be on our way.

Wave to your neighbors

And help me pull back on the stick,

We are off the ground now,

Wasn’t that quick?

I’m doing it daddy, I’m doing it.

I am flying Colonel Ron’s helicopter,

Can you believe it.

Yay! Sister is flying daddy.

I see baby and not doing it badly.

Okay Leann, see way out there to the horizon,

Yes Colonel Ron, is that where we are going?

No, you need to watch that as you fly

And see this gauge; you watch it with the other eye.

But if I do that Colonel Ron, I will look funny.

Hon, you look at one then the other…ahhh you got me.

Ha Ha Ha. Sean, your daughter here is a wit.

I bet her dad is where she gets it.

Have you made a decision about your career, son.

Well sir, I think Seina is sold and so are the children.

Good, Good. Welcome aboard. I will take care of your work,

So your family duties, you won’t have to shirk.

I think the army can wait a month or so,

To get a future recruit in the flow.

Okay, young lady, there is the base over yonder,

We need to call the tower, “Tower from Doc Thunder”

“Go ahead Doc, have a good Flight?”

“Yep, sure did.”

“Sir you are cleared to land on one-four right”

“Roger that, one-four right”

Okay hon, I will have to take it from here,

See the stick there,

Push it down to put down our landing gear.

Good landing young lady

Now turn that switch this way,

That’s right, you just turned off the motor,

And that will stop the blades.

Did everyone enjoy their ride a lot?

Oh yes, someday I am going to be a helicopter pilot.

I bet you will and you will be a good one too.

Me too Colonel Ron, I want to be a pilot just like you.

Well girls, piloting is just part of what I do,

You see, like your dad, I am a doctor too.

Flying is fun that is true,

But doctoring, and saving lives,

Is what I would rather do.

Colonel, thank you for all you have done.

It was my pleasure to help you out son.

You have a real nice family,

It has been ten years since I lost my Emily.

It was good to feel that family atmosphere.

I am real glad to have you all here.

Sir, you are always welcome at our house,

Come on by anytime and a beer or two we will douse.

Just may take you up on that son,

Darn my pager is going off, I got to run.

Hop in sir and I will drop you at the hospital,

It ain’t much after all you have done, but it is a little.

Don’t mind if I do.

Thanks for the lift. Bye girls, bye Sean, I will be seeing you.

Bye Colonel Ron. Thank you for the ride.

Bye Colonel. That was fun.

Bye girls, Y’all be on the safe side.

Did you girls think that was fun?

Oh yes daddy. I can hardly wait to tell mum.

We may want to keep that a secret between us,

It may upset mom and you know she will fuss.

It would be okay to tell Grandmamma Maggie,

And Grandpappa Wes,

We won’t tell mom we will let her rest.

Okay daddy, but that was quite an adventure

And I got to fly the helicopter.

I wish I had got a picture,

To show my friends and my teacher Miss Hopper.

Well honey, you will have a great tale to tell,

We are almost home. Hope mom is well.

GRANDMAMA AND GRANDPAPA, WE GOT TO FLY.

Shhhh. Not so loud you were supposed to do that on the sly.

We don’t want your mom to hear,

It will upset the poor dear.

We can’t let her get upset,

I may hurt little Harlan and we don’t won’t that.

Do we?

I am sorry, but it was sooooo neat,

The Colonel let me fly in his lap and him on the seat.

I turn on the helicopter with this little switch,

And then we lifted off with out a hitch.

Didn’t we Lacy, get way up in the sky?

Yes, Grandmama, we got to fly.

The houses looked like my doll houses,

And the people like little ants,

The mountains we could see,

And the trees looked like house plants.

Well I see you two had quite a time,

We been holding dinner for you since five oh nine.

So run on in the house and wash up,

And we will put your food out for sup.

Sean, she has been pretty quiet.

She finds out about this and you know there will be a riot.

I know mom, I will tell her in my own way,

Hopefully I find the right words to say.

Gotta keep her calm at all cost,

Or our unborn son will be lost.

It has been really rough on the babies,

Me gone, mom sick, but that is the way it is.

I felt they deserve a treat,

I had to let them,

Or those beautiful eyes I just couldn’t meet.

Well son,

What is done is done.

All is well that ends well,

But I don’t think that will keep you from catching hell.

Ha, Ha, Ha…I know Wes,

But I will just have to go in there and do my best.
