Rebel Mormon

I believe the words
I believe the stories
I believe
Everything
I’ve been taught
Since I was young
But the rules
So many rules
Too many rules to count
Some say I’m a Jack Mormon
But that’s what I’m not

Jack Mormons
Pretend to believe
They are
So-called
Sunday Christians
Acting like they believe
In the gospel in full
But they do not

I have my faith
And love for the church
Sometimes I don’t go
But just for fear of being judged

I’m a rebel Mormon
My faith is strong and true
I love the church in whole
I just can’t follow all the rules

I have faith
In the priesthood
I know
The prophet is real
And that Jesus
Truly lives

I doubt not the church
Nor its teachings at all
I’m just a rebel Mormon
And I follow not the rules

I love God
And I love Jesus
I love the church
And all it’s done for me
I know
That the gospel is true
And I will preach its truths
Until my dying day

I’m a rebel Mormon
And my faith is strong and true
I love the church in whole
But I can’t follow all the rules
I’m a rebel Mormon
And I know the gospel’s right
I believe with all my might
But I’m just a rebel Mormon
Yes just a rebel Mormon
Just a rebel Mormon
And I follow
Not
The rules
