Half Past The Century

Folder:
Life/Living

Today, I turned fifty six:

Judging by my physical looks

No one suspects my age

Is closing the border

Of the sixth decade fold.

Could it be due to my Asian built?

Petite like a dwarf in my sight?

No wrinkles to worry as

The collagen component helps

Withstand the weather of times.

I shun the nagging nicotine

Of cigarettes and dopes

I eschew the vexatious spirits

Of alcohol that would deplete

And play havoc to my system and brain.

Late nights out destroy and split

A womanly character in me

A smile is one good gift to give away

Friends, foes and strangers need it everyday.

Yet, laughter is the best medicine to bet.

Being true to myself

And keeping life simple as I could

Beating the blues with prayers

Close to faith, albeit

Keeping spiritual momentum is far the best.

Birthday is not marked with worldly glitters

It is simply a time to thank the Lord

For the life He gave me

To live this long today and

Be appreciative for what He did for me.

How lucky I am here standing tall

For the wonder and beauty I see.

The span of time in battling trials

Is surpassed by the goodness

And joy I live by.
