Nameless Avenue

Take a trip down Nameless Avenue

Watch the eyes on Nowhere Street

With their mocking grins aimed your feet

As they stare at you.

Feel the rush and feel the burn

Of thousands filling needless holes

With senseless self-indulgent glows

At every turn.

Sever ties with outside worlds.

Join these streets and walk them swift.

Lose no time and fall in quick.

Watch the lovely day unfurl.

Jim Rotund... is on his way to dine

At Mona Coffee's little shop

While all the world begins to stop

To peer in disgust at this sign

Of careless man with no regard

For how he carries on and on

With endless pockets for his lard.

'He must feel he can't belong,'

They say and prattle on and on

With pride as they're singing their songs

Of how lucky it wasn't them

To be the ones that went so wrong.

Meet Joe Blow, the fittingest chameleon.

In these streets he can adapt

And stretch much like balloons with helium

Morphing this and changing that.

He can carry conversation

At the Ritz or subway station.

Different masks for different faces

Leave him desperate for traces

Of himself...

*****

Sid Gallant, chivalrous in many ways.

Known by many as "The Lover"

Girls' opinions he may sway

While behind he courts their mothers.

Fearing images are wreckable

Always he does dress impeccable

Leaving little room for doubt

That life for him is almost out.

Tony Tuxes, known by most... he runs the show

Half the street he owns, employing half the crowd

Giving Sid and Joe and Jim a place to go.

And reimbursing them with half what they're allowed.

Not so bad though, chances are that if you holler

He'll give you the chance to earn that half a dollar.

Tony Tuxes, business bloke, and nothing smaller.

Half a man... half a robot... half a scholar.

Welcome to our Avenue.

Every morning eager faces

Step onto the scene...

Every evening leaving traces

Lifeless as their dreams...
