Tree Planters Pipe Dream

Folder:
Simple Rhymes

Bugs, everywhere,

sucking blood and taking bites,

where you cant escape the cold at night,

a tent as your protection,

from the wind and hail and snow,

but exposed in each and every day,

planting rows and rows and rows,

All along the cut block,

the trees get planted in,

earned with blood and sweat,

among the slash and biting wind,

slash so high you have to climb,

plant a seed thats worth a dime,

and move on,

on to the next,

the next day, the next month,

no, the next tree, the next minute,

like picking up dimes,

hot out of hell,

and sent back to the earth.

Sometimes camp has no power,

we're subject to freezing showers,

and mud paints the walls,

for several months we live like this,

away from home,

our home this is,

So this summer, what will you do,

while i work out there bleeding,

planting new roots,

every day means more hard work,

getting intimate with land and dirt,

safe to say we lose our minds,

Fishing days and summer beaches,

nights at bars and sarcastic speeches,

Partying long into the night

these days are far and out of sight

thinking now what could have been,

is just another planters pipe dream

Author's Notes/Comments:

Just a quick little write i wrote while picking out a planting company for the season,

If you've been tree planting in BC, you know what I'm talking about.
If not, i can't even describe the love/hate relationship that treeplanting builds with you,

You'll bleed, sweat, get bitten by bugs until some cry, hell, I got bear maced in the face from 3 feet away last year,

and you spend 3 months in a tent.  but somehow throughout all that clusterfuck of gnarly shit that is planting, you have fun!

Crazy work for crazy people! :D
