The old tree

The old tree

In a big old tree there lived a group of small animals. In the top of the tree there lives a golden-crowned kinglet, a bird with a golden patch seeming like a crown. On the middle part of the tree there lives squirrels, an owl, a sloth, a monkeys, tree frogs, lizards, a snake and a koala. Everybody followed and obeyed kinglet because he had a crown and he lived at the top. Nobody seemed to bother. One day a new animal arrived, a small caterpillar and started to live at the bottom of the tree. The other animals wanted to go down and greet they’re new neighbor. The kinglet stops them and said. “Only the ugliest animals live close to the ground!”, the animals asked why and the kinglet said. “Only us graceful live at the top of civilization.” All animals nodded to each other in agreement, except the koala, for him it didn’t seem right. So in the night when everybody was sleeping, he went down and see the caterpillar. Koala had never noticed that the lower part of the tree was beautiful, it was greener than the old tree, and he saw different animals.

Close the caterpillar’s home he said, “Hello, I am koala, from the middle of the tree.”, but caterpillar didn’t respond. The koala took out a couple of leaves and said. “I brought you a present, as gesture.”  He putted the leaves close to the floor. Suddenly the small caterpillar got out from a hole, and the koala hear a sweet cute voice. “Thank you, I love leaves, they’re my favorite food.” “So are mine,” Said the koala. Koala discovered that the caterpillar’s name is Caty, she loves leaves, and since she could remember she had been alone, so having a friend like koala was great.

Time passed and one night looking for Caty, Koala noticed a small cocoon. Knowing it was Caty he promised himself to look out for her until she hatches. Koala spends every day close to the cocoon. The other animals noticed Koala’s absence, and saw him in the bottom of the tree close the cocoon. The kinglet reunited all the animals of the old tree and said. “We should go down there and destroy the cocoon.” The snake said. “No! We should eat it.” “No! Let’s us it as decoration.” Said the lizards. “But why do something to it, let’s leave it alone.” Said the squirrel mom. Everyone agreed, but the kinglet convinced them by saying, “That cocoon will spawn millions of caterpillars and they’ll take, our homes, our children! Imagine that!” Scared everybody took their torches to burn the cocoon. The koala tried to stop them: “Why do we even follow what kinglet says, he’s making choices for you.” Nobody knew what to do now, and during the confusion kinglet broke the cocoon. In that instant a butterfly emerged spreading her wings and flying away. Caty looking at Koala said “I am free now I can go to Mexico!” put on her “sombrero” and left. Koala followed and headed to a new tree. The other animals changed to new trees, some in the desert, others in the jungle, or the rain forest leaving Kinglet alone at the top of the old tree.
