The Line Between Love and Hate

Folder:
Society

Love is a fickle thing-

It changes its mind

About people

And about its intensity.

Tolerance can change

To infatuation

Then back again

In an instant.

Hate, on the other hand,

Is something

You can control

And use to your benefit.

It’s the shield

We employ when

We’re feeling too unlovable

To battle our lovers.

Author's Notes/Comments:

Inspired by: "Love is temperamental. It makes demands. Love uses you, changes its mind. But hatred, now that’s something you can use. Sculpt. Wield. It's hard or soft, however you need it. Love humiliates you, but hatred cradles you." - Janet Fitch "White Oleander"
