Dilapidated

These four walls

Are paperthin;

The foundation

Is too cracked.

This sturdy-appearing

Building is

Only a façade;

It’s crumbling.

Each brick was

Mortared in place

With melancholy.

Each floor tile was

Trampled on

By rejection’s feet.

The faucets leak,

The windows

Barely creak open.

It’s an abandoned home

With an expired

Lease on life.
