Emotionally Invested

Lessons Learned

I used you as if you were an object,
Absorbing your attention like a sponge
And sipping it when I was lonely
Until every drop was expended.

As the provider of my confidence,
You were concerned in satisfying me,
That is until when you realized
I had squandered all your attention.

Once I noticed my fatal mistake,
I began putting all my heart into you,
But I could not understand what we were
So I developed a new definition for us.

I considered myself the creator
Of this new relationship, the initiator,
The instigator of our courtship
And became exceptionally attached.

However, by now, you were indifferent,
No longer wanting to show me affection
Although I finally was involved in you;
It was too late for me to take back my error.
