Peace in War

Folder:
On Poetry

I prepare to commence battle

with a ready will

though my hands may be unskilled;

what I lack in ability,

I make up for in determination.

My armor of verbiage

motivates me to march on,

including a breastplate

well-worn with past experiences

and a helmet of tested metaphors.

However, they are only shielding me

from the pain of admitting

my deficiencies in other areas

and protecting me from being

revealed as an amateur.

But Muse is a double-edged sword,

mending previous wounds

with each drop of blood spilled,

while incurring new ones

on which to draw inspiration.

Still, there is victory found

and peace discovered

when words have been scattered

like fallen soldiers across

the landscape of blank paper.

Rewrite 2012

I prepare to commence battle
with a ready will
though my hands may be unskilled;
what I lack in ability,
I make up for in determination.

My armor of verbiage
motivates me to march on,
including a breastplate well-worn
with past experiences
and a helmet of tested metaphors.

However, they are only shielding me
from the pain of admitting
my deficiencies in warfare
and protecting me from being
revealed as an amateur.

But Muse is a double-edged sword,
mending previous wounds
with each drop of ink spilled,
while incurring new ones
on which to draw inspiration.

Still, there is victory found
and peace discovered
when words have been scattered
like fallen soldiers across
the backdrop of blank paper.
