You wouldn’t offer drugs

To a recovering drug addict,

Would you?



Well, I came to you

With bloodshot eyes

And swollen veins

And asked for help.



You said, “I know

Of a few people

That went cold turkey.

Now, I wouldn’t

Recommend that.

Instead, take this,

But only in moderation.”



“Why, thank you.”

I answered trembling.

“This is just the

Right dosage I need

To make it through

Each day.”



You chuckled as

You watched me

Get even more

Addicted to this

New prescription

Then I was before,

Knowing that I would

Always come back

For more.



That’s what I get

For taking the advice  

Of my drug dealer.
