CLOCKS ON TAVERN WALLS

I glance at the clock on the wall.  It tells me that it’s a quarter til 10:00.  Of course you can never be too sure when you’re dealing with a clock on a tavern wall.  These local taproom clocks often tell lies.  They often intentionally set the clock fast to run out drunks earlier when closing time arrives.  Some barkeeps simply don’t maintain their clocks or they set them to the time zone that they’d like to be in.  If you don’t have your own watch and your cell phone dies, you’re just shit out of luck.  You never really know the true time.  It’s a dilemma that, sadly, is older than the Chicago Transit Authority song.

Clocks on walls tell lies

spitting out untrue hours

we never get home
