An early start

          with the ravages

  and ruins

       of today’s man

faltering

      under the wicked eye

of witches

        and hazed students

   co-educated

by mass professors

        and union statesmen

all of whom

were led astray

         with fraud embezzled

    from the sages

but we wanted

             a better way

      and yet did

        not search it out

and we waited and waited

                   all in vain

        with hopes squashed

by the sledgehammer

     as teeth are gnashed

             and gnawed

by prosperous preppies

         suddenly exposed

          to the dead

and it all—

none of it worked

not a Got damned thing

     worked at all
