I remember

the one time

in Berkeley in ‘86

I had only been

out in the Bay area

once before

and faced perfect weather

on this trip

I was caught

completely unprepared

and learned to forever

appreciate a great writer

I head out thinking

yeah, it’s California

sunny, warm and beautiful

I was wearing shorts

had only packed shors and t shirts

to wear the entire time

no jacket, long pants or sweatshirt

and it was cold

the nights were breezy

I was shivering and shaking

the whole time I was there

I learned a lesson

I’ve always ben prepared

for any weather

ever since that trip
