Hachiko

One summer morning a boy woke up from his long sleep and saw in his backyard a dog running from end to end. The dog was a beautiful white German Sheppard, with a long tail and big black eyes. The boy ran downstairs with big illusion thinking the dog was a surprise from his parents but when he was in the backyard there was no dog. He asked his parents where the dog was but they told little Jim that there was no dog.

“You must be day-dreaming Jim” – Mrs. Daisy said.

“I will never allow a dog in this house” – Mr. Howard said.

But Jim knew he wasn’t crazy, since he was pretty sure there was a beautiful white dog in his backyard that morning. But as he was preparing himself for school and left, he was thinking only one thing the whole day. He was wondering what was his name and how did he appeared from nowhere. The day went by and Jim was lost in his theories about how a dog could have been running freely in his backyard. When Jim got back that evening from school he rushed to his backyard to see if he could surprise the white dog over there running but there was no sign of him. So he just got into his room and fell asleep as soon as he reached his bed.

Jim got up from bed in a beautiful yellow morning and picked over his balcony, and there was a white dog running from end to end freely and happy. Jim rushed downstairs and hugged the dog as an old friend from a lifetime. During the entire morning they played different games, they sat in the grass and Jim talked to him as if he could understand.

“You’re my very best friend” –Jim told the dog

“Woof! Woof!” –The dog replied

“You don’t appear to have a name, so I will give you one!”

“Woof!”

“I will name you Hachiko, my mom told me that means loyal dog in Japanese the other day” –Jim told the dog.

“You will never leave me, right? “

“Woof! Woof!”

Suddenly Jim woke up and realized he was just dreaming. It was 8:00 pm and dinner was ready so as he went downstairs he checked his balcony if he could see his dog Hachiko running freely in the backyard but he didn’t see anything. Jim got into the kitchen and with a sad face began eating his dinner. His dad was arriving and as he sat in the table he told Jim.

“Is everything okay my boy?” –Mr. Howard said.

“More or less” –Jim said

“What’s the matter?” –Mr. Howard said kindly.

“I had a beautiful dream, where I had this dog and I named him Hachiko and I began to play with him but then I just woke up and realized I was alone in my room.” –Jim said.

“Well son you know we can’t have a dog because of your mom’s allergy”

“I know, but it will be nice to have a dog to be my friend you know, someone who will never leave me… “

Dinner went by and Jim went upstairs to his bedroom. As he got into his bed he only closed his eyes and wished to have Hachiko with him. Then as he opened his eyes he realized that outside it wasn’t dark but instead a little orange with the leaves of the trees knocking as inviting him to open his window. He checked on the balcony and there he was, Hachiko was just waiting for Jim to get down and play.

Jim rushed down the stairs and hugged Hachiko as hard as he could, Jim had never felt more welcomed in his entire life.

“I missed you so much” –Jim said.

“Woof! Woof!”

Jim grabbed a stick and began to play with Hachiko, as they ran freely in the backyard which seemed more like an enormous forest filled with trees, grass and the majestic sunset. Never before a boy was so connected with his dog. If you could see them you would tell they were meant to be best friends since the beginning of times. Jim enjoyed with all his heart to have his very best friend with him every single time but he knew he couldn’t do it. As the sunset began to leave Jim sat beside him.

“I never want you to leave me, promise me you will always be in my dreams”

“Woof! Woof!”
