WINE DRINKERS SPIT; BEER DRINKERS SWALLOW

They held the event

at the Penn Museum

as part of the Book and the Cook.

It started out as a combo

beer and wine tasting event

but eventually became just beer.

You could sample various

beers and wines during the event.

Of course, differences

immediately emerged.

The wine drinkers sniffed their wines

and then cautiously gargled the wine

in their mouths—

then they spit the wine into buckets.

The beer drinkers lustily

Slurped the beers down;

quick swirl; quick sniff for the nose

and then down the chute.

And the beer drinkers swallowed

their samples heartily;

one after another

eventually without blinking.

It was decided, perhaps,

that the event should become

just a beer tasting event.

There’s fewer buckets

To be cleaned at the end.
