Forgotten Plight

Folder:
Completed Poems

Here lies their grave,

     “X” marks the spot,

Entombed in memories

     That time forgot.

Alone they fell

     In millennia past,

Victims to fate,

     This battle their last.

Valiantly they fought

     With tooth and nail,

Their efforts were naught:

     Destined to fail.

There lies the hilt

     Of a grime encrusted sword;

There lies a skull

     Shattered in the fore.

In the distance, a peak

     Perched on top, a castle

Brought to ruin

     In this forgotten hassle.

The lord of residence

     Fled long ago

His lands pillaged,

     Destroyed was his home.

There in a heap,

     A crumpled figure,

Death did he meet,

     Yet his soul still lingers.

This field lies haunted

     By phantoms of yore;

Their efforts are naught,

     Forgotten is their war.
