My Granpas Credential

I remember having lunch at my grandparents’ house every Sunday, we used to arrive and there are two things that I remember clearly about my grandparents, every time we arrived my grandmother used to give us “Kinder Sorpresa” the little chocolate egg with a surprise inside, which always wanted to eat it before lunch but of course they would not let us. My grandmother was always in a good mood, she never got mad and she always liked to give us presents and candy. In the other hand, we have my grandfather, a serious man. He used to always talk in a serious tone, in a polite way, never rude, never mad, just really serious. There is a small story that he used to tell us, and therefore, I think why he was a serious man.  The thing that I most remember about him is how when we all sat down at the table, my grandparent would always tell us about the time we went to the Second World War, he even showed us his “Service Card” that the Italian government gave him to congratulate him for his service. The story he always used to tell was the time he had to dress up as a German soldier, or as they were called a Nazis, so he could escape when they were caught, yes, Italy and Germany were together in the war, but since my grandparent was never in favor of what was going on he always refused to help the Germans. He told us how one time he was captured, he and some other Italian soldiers took a couple of Nazi uniforms and they walked out as if they were supposed to be there. He proceeded to tell us another story that was in that same war, when after escaping the German Soldiers, he had to go a hide in the mountains for a couple of years until the war was over. He used to tell us this in a really wired tone, he sounded proud for service his country but he did not like all the things that happened. After the story, he always proceeded to taking out his “Service Card” from his wallet and passing it around the table so we could all see it. My sisters, my cousins and I, always loved to hear this story. This reminds me all of what my grandfather went through and how tough it must have had been for him but he still moved on, he was always a simple, serious and hardworking guy, even until his late years he used to work. The card he used to show us is what I most remember about him, and that’s why I think he used to be how he was.
