The enemy is advancing

It is hell

He was supposed to be home in time

The operation failed

Author's Notes/Comments: 

This is one of my many war poems. The actual setting is WW2 winter 1944. Soldiers were told they would be home by christmas but then the Allies were faced with many new problems and the war continued for nearly another year. meanwhile offencives were launched and soldiers who only wanted to be home with thier familes died and thousands of letters were recieved through the season of hope and peace informing loved ones of the loss of thier Heroes.
