A fire doesn't have to kill you to take your life

As i turn back i see that blaze

The fire burning

Like the anger in my soul

I made a life here

But that seems worthless

All my things i held dear gone

I hear the screams

But i can't go back

I'm out now

I see the burning

I feel the heat

I wish it hadn't come to this

The black smoke rises into the midnight air

It may be sub zero out here but i don't feel it

That fire keeps me warm

Toasting and roasting my belongings

The only thing i have left is the clothes on my back

I stand and watch my life burn away

The flames seem to mock me

Dancing round in merriment

Torching my soul

Burning into my memory the fateful night i lost everything

I hear the sirens approching

I see the lights far off

I'm on my knees now

Mesmerised by those flames

Amazed by that heat

The sweat trickles down my face

The engines are closer

But the rage continues

As the trucks pull to a stop

The crew climb out

The run to the building with hoses going

One places a blanket round me and takes me inside the big steely red beast

I sit there unable to say a word

Just watching my possesions go up in smoke

Hours pass but it feels like an eternity

Finally all thats left are the smouldering remains of what once was my life.

Author's Notes/Comments:

Perhaps cooking after a few drinks wasn't such a great idea.
