Study like there's no tomorrow

It was 6:00 PM on a beautiful Saturday and Owlbert, the medical student, had already been studying for 12 straight hours for his Morphophysiology test that was coming up next Friday. He’d read a total of 53,758 pages about the functioning of the owl body and he still felt as if he knew nothing about it. Suddenly he got a phone call from his good friend Owlswald inviting him over to his house to play some video games and drink some beers with his friends.

-“Hey Owlbert, it's been a while since you last hanged out with us… why don't you come over and spend some time with your pals?” Said Owlswald

- “I’m sorry owl, I’ve got a lot to study, maybe we could hang out after I finish studying, in 7 years.” Said Owlbert

- “Aww come on, owl. You must have time for your boys, not everything in life is studying!”

- “I wish I could, but I really can’t right now”

- “What if the world ends tomorrow? You'll regret spending your last moment as a studying rat!”

- “Yeah right, see ya”

- “Alright, maybe next time... bye bye”

Owlbert kept studying for the next 3 hours. He closed the windows so that he could concentrate even better. He heard some loud noises coming from the outside, but he thought it was his imagination, since he had gotten only a total of 8 hours of sleep during the week. After spending a good amount of time trying to understand how his feathers developed during the embrionary period, a thought came through his mind.

-“You know, I’ve been studying for a while now, maybe I could give myself a break.”

He grabbed his phone and called Owlswald, but he didn't answer

- “I bet they're already drunk, I’ll just show up”

He took a bath, the first one in a week, grabbed his stuff and got ready to leave.

As soon as he opened the door, his jaw dropped, he thought his cornea was not seeing fine, he was stricken. Every building was leveled, the ground was full of ashes, and nothing but debris from the buildings were left.

He was trying to understand what had happened, just when he heard a voice from the distance:

-“I knew it would end this way, I told everyone but no one believed me!” a crazy hobo owl hollered

-“What happened?” Owlbert screeched to the “hobowl”

-“The Gods! the Gods whammed what used to be our world!

-“We were so concentrated on our daily activities that the Gods felt ignored and decided to rap the pillars that sustained the world with an undue amount of force”

Suddenly, Owlbert realized that he had been so caught up on his routine that he hardly ever gave time to what really matter… his friends and family.

The moral of this story is that it is important to have a balance in life. Of course, it is important to study and to develop professionally, but let’s not forget to spend time with our loved ones.
